Civil and General Contractors was founded in August 1987 in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa by George van der Westhuyzen. Initially we concentrated on specialized civil and construction structures which required targeted technical expertise. We established ourselves as a principal civil and construction operation with a reputation for excellence through strict quality control and the ability to adhere to deadlines. We have executed comprehensive civil engineering projects, which included national roads, pipelines and concrete structures such as dam outlets, reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges as well as township infrastructure and other associated civil work. We carry out a variety smaller projects which comprise of small tarring jobs, paving, astro turf earthworks, sports fields, tennis courts and netball courts.
Through changing economic times we adapted and diversified our portfolio of competencies ensuring future growth while providing us with access to a variety of markets in the Queenstown area, simultaneously creating a competitive advantage beneficial to our clients. The divisions of the organization consists of civil engineering, plant hire, a precast concrete factory, hard rock quarry operation, ready mix batching plant and a brick manufacturing factory.
We employ suitably qualified management staff to operate and maintain the divisions backed by a disciplined appropriately trained workforce. The corporation includes a structural steel workshop and a highly specialized maintenance workshop with strict maintenance programmes which keeps our fleet of construction plant, equipment and factory machinery at maximal condition, enabling us to co-ordinate an efficient plant hire division, delivery of products and services and capacitating the completion of quality projects without the risk of downtime.
